This summer staff and residents have both taken on significant challenges to raise just under £3000 for the Mayor’s charities.

Carole Waistle and Angie Johnson, our daredevils from our front of house team in The Orangery took to the skies as part of their fundraising challenge. The pair did a sky dive tandem jump out of an aeroplane at Durham Tees Valley Airport to raise the money.

Carole commented “this challenge was always on my bucket list so when we were recently asked for fundraising ideas I thought there was no time like the present and raising money for the mayor’s chosen charities was a great idea.”

Angie was always keen to jump on board to support her friend, “It was amazing. I would definitely do it again.”

Darlington Town Mayor Councillor Brian Jones and his wife, Doris presented a bouquet of flowers to them both to show their appreciation for raising over £1,000 for their chosen charities.

Not to be outdone, Waterside resident, Ken Boston 63, donned his walking shoes this August and went that extra mile to help fundraise for St Teresa’s Hospice, also one of the Mayors chosen charities.

Between the 15th and the 26th August 2016, Ken and old friend Dave Tulip set off to complete the 192 mile coast to coast walk. They started with their toes in the sea at St. Bees on the west coast, arriving at their final destination of Robin Hood’s Bay in the sunshine on Friday 26th as planned. They completed the coast to coast walk in 11 days. Residents from the Middleton Hall Walking Group and staff joined Ken and Dave on the Cleveland way for a small walk but if truthful were glad to wave them both off for the further 20 miles that day. Good weather (mostly), great scenery and no blisters!

Ken and Dave raised £740 which was kindly matched by Barclays Bank. In total both fundraising events achieved just under £3000 for charity.

Olympic performances from you all. Thank you
