A MUM-of-two who ran her own health business has joined a retirement village as their resident nutrition expert.

Nicola, 42, of Barnard Castle, was a fitness and nutrition trainer in Wales until she moved to the North East with her husband for his work.

Now Nicola has brought her years of health experience to Middleton Hall Retirement Village, near Darlington, County Durham, where she has joined the Living Well team.

The village’s Living Well team encourage and support residents to enjoy maximum health and wellbeing through exercise, social events, workshops and healthy meals.

Nicola said: “I’m a firm believer in using nutrition and exercise to improve your health and I’ve seen first hand the benefits of it, no matter how old you are.

“I’m passionate about seeing people come here and enjoy better health. I’m going to be encouraging people to get moving and looking at their diets as a way for them to get energised and fight any illnesses or conditions.”

Nicola has already introduced healthy energy bars and snacks, such as oat bran muffins, into Middleton Hall’s Orangery cafe and will be working with the chef on the staff menu to increase healthy eating options.
