In March, the Gardening Group consisting of residents from Middleton Woods, Middleton Grove and Age UK Members put their green fingers to the test as they sowed sunflower seeds during their spring workshop.  After two months of patience and careful nurturing, 45 sunflowers were planted out by the gardening team.

Over 20 residents and staff entered the competition to sponsor a sunflower. During the warm summer months (yes I can say that this year) the sunflowers flourished. On the glorious 12th, the judging team with measuring tapes in hand went about the task of identifying the winners.

Norman Prynn, Ralph Appleton and Len Turner took top honours with their sunflowers making it a clean sweep for the gents of Middleton Grove.  Norman just pipped his fellow residents taking first prize with a winning height of 2 metres.

Well done to everyone who took part. The seeds are already being dried as we speak for next years’ competition. Who if any can knock Norman off the top spot?
