A Yellow Wagtail was at the edge of the pond on Wednesday 27th August. These birds are much scarcer than the resident Grey and Pied Wagtails and it was great to spot this rare bird on site, especially as the species has declined rapidly in the past 20 years. The Breeding Bird Survey annual report reveals a 43 per cent drop between 1995 and 2012.
Yellow Wagtails are due to migrate back to Africa next month. Do let us know if you are lucky enough to spot one!
