‘The Line Through Time’ – Photography Exhibition

May 2015

The Line Through TimeA fantastic collection of past and present rail images will be on display at Middleton Hall’s Photography Exhibition to celebrate the 190th anniversary of the 1825 Stockton and Darlington Railway.

Entitled ‘The Line Through Time’, the event has been organised by our photography club and The Friends of the Stockton and Darlington Railway.

Held on Saturday 16th May , the exhibition is part of Darlington Arts Festival, which is featuring a series of events this year on the impact of the railways on our everyday lives to tie in with the 190th anniversary. Darlington Mayor, Councillor Gerald Lee, will welcome visitors to the exhibition, where more than 75 images will be on display.

The free event will feature a concert given by Fishburn Academy Band at 10:30am before the main exhibition gets underway. Later at 4.00pm, the Friends will give a presentation about the campaign to gain prestigious world heritage status for the line. Train spotters lunch specials will also be available in the Orangery for everyone to enjoy.

Line Through TimeMembers of Middleton Hall’s photography group loved getting out and about to take modern day shots of the railway and some of the steam engines which used to be seen on its tracks.

Audra Hunt, Living Well Manager said “We’re delighted to be taking part in the arts festival and playing our part in celebrating Darlington’s heritage. The photography group has worked really hard to pull this exhibition together and we thought the traditional sounds of a brass band would in a small way be perfect for our event to re-enact the original opening of the railway where a salute of seven guns were fired and the brass band struck up the National Anthem.”

The programme of the day is as follows:

10:30am                        Welcome followed by Fishburn Academy Band Concert

11:30am – 4:00pm    Full Exhibition Viewing

4:00pm                          Presentation by the Friends of the Stockton and Darlington Railway

Admission is free by ticket only. Tickets are now available by contacting Reception on 01325 332207. We look forward to seeing you there!
