A Wonderland Adventure
Many characters of the much loved Lewis Carrols novel Alice in Wonderland made an appearance including Alice herself, the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts, the White Rabbit and many more much-loved personalities.
The lack of sunshine did not dampen spirits or ruin anyone’s enjoyment. It may not have been possible to play a game of Queen’s croquet but everyone, both young and old, took part in a range of indoor themed activities.
The inside of the Hall was transformed into a Wonderland Adventure with games such as ‘Down the Rabbit Hole’, ‘Mad Hatters Hoopla’, ‘Play Your Cards Right’, ‘Pin the Grin’ all causing much hilarity and laughter. The Mad Hatter’s Tea and Cakes looked and tasted magnificent and the Seasonal Singers performed a wonderfully upbeat set.
Middleton Hall was delighted to receive the Mayor and Mayoress of Darlington, Brian and Doris Jones who made a special appearance on the day. Both had grins as big as the Cheshire cat’s as they were greeted by the mischievous Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum.
Many residents entered into the spirit of the day, having been busy all week making costumes for the event. None more so than independent residents, Christine and Peter Wright who stole the show with their White Rabbit and Mad Hatter outfits. They were the ultimate winners of the Fancy Dress competition.
Mad Hatter Jeremy Walford, aka Middleton Hall’s managing director said, “When the clock ticked past 2.30pm, I was pleased to see no one was late for this very important date as they really would have missed a treat. Being indoors did not take away from the enjoyment had by all. This annual summer event has become hugely popular and one that residents, staff and family members look forward to. There is something for everyone, both young and old and this year has been no different.
The event was free but all proceeds raised through the Tombola and Stall Holders go to the Mayor’s four charities for 2016/17 which Middleton Hall is supporting. Over £300.00 was raised.
